Elin Vasstrand, photographer in Bergen since 2011.

She trained as a printer in Oslo, moved to Bergen for a six-month contract and stayed. The first commissions were for the ferry lines she rode to work.
Most of the year she works alone, from a van and two cameras, for magazines, publishers and the people she meets on the way. Every job is still proofed on paper before it leaves the studio.
She takes on about twenty commissions a year and keeps the winter for her own series.
On foot
Most pictures here were made within an hour’s walk of where the van was parked. Slow travel is the method, not a constraint.
One camera
A single body and one or two lenses per job. Fewer choices on the day means more attention on what is in front of it.
Proofed on paper
Nothing is delivered from a screen. Every select is printed, lived with for a day, and only then graded for release.
